Visco Corporation, the company behind the
Breakers series, was founded and officially incorporated on August 8, 1983.
While it was initially a part of Taito, the company
later collaborated with Seta and Sammy for the SSV arcade system.
Since 2008, the company has focused on developing slot machines for Southeast Asia. Although they no
longer make new games, re-releases have helped keep their classic titles alive.
Breakers was originally conceived in 1993 under the name "Tenrin no Syo Chicago",
which was later known internationally as Crystal Legacy.
Three years later, on March 21, 1996, Breakers was released for the Neo Geo MVS,
developed by VISCO and published by
SNK.
It was praised for its accessibility and vibrant art style, setting it apart from other fighters of its
time.
Released on July 2, 1998, for Neo Geo MVS and AES,
Breakers Revenge is the sequel to Breakers.
It features new arts, colors, reworked stages, and the newcomer, Saizo.
Over the years, Breakers Revenge has gained a loyal fanbase with its smooth gameplay and memorable
characters,
becoming a beloved classic among retro gaming enthusiasts.
On January 12, 2023, QUByte Interactive released
Breakers Collection for consoles and PC,
reintroducing the beloved fighting series to a new generation of gamers.
The collection combines both Breakers and Breakers Revenge,
enhanced with modern features including cross-platform multiplayer,
global leaderboards, revamped visuals, a dedicated training mode, and a team battle feature.
Released on August 22, 2024,
Breakers Revenge Chicago for the EXA-Arcadia system pays tribute to the
original prototype.
This enhanced version features new colors,
Bai-hu, a training mode, stages from all entries in the series,
a new announcer, and the Neo Geo CD soundtrack.
It also introduces three distinct gameplay modes: Revenge, Extra, and Chicago.
